Preparing for your wedding can be overwhelming, especially your beauty preparations. If you are like most brides, you are probably considering hiring a make-up artist for your wedding. If so, it's a great idea. Choosing wedding vendors is why we created this series of guides, and in this one we'll focus on make up artists! If you follow the ideas in this guide, finding the perfect MUA to do your wedding makeup should be an easy task!
To start, you'll want to make a list of reputable MUAs in the area, and you can do this by checking online reviews. There are several websites that allow uses to provide reviews, many of which are even specific to wedding vendors. This is a great way to get an idea on whether or not the vendor is good at customer service or their craft. Current and former clients alike will have provided these reviews, and that's some pretty good inside information to have!
You will need to narrow down your list to do this, call the artists you have listed and inquire about prices and availability. If a make-up artist exceeds your budget or is not available for the date of your wedding, you can go ahead and cross them off your list. Is the make-up artist using sanitized utensils? Is the artist certified? Is the stylist dressed respectably for work? Personally speak with the artist ask plenty of questions. Some good questions to ask are, Where did you learn to apply make-up?, How long have you been doing make-up?, Are you certified?, Are you willing to travel to me? The most important question to ask is to view their portfolios. It is imperative that you see the work they have done in the past. This will help you determine if their level of skill matches your requirements.
Once you have narrowed your list to about two or three make-up artist, schedule trials. A trial is when the make-up artist will do your make up in the same manner they will for your wedding. A good make-up artist will recognize your needs, and will do everything in their power to make sure you walk out satisfied.
The final step is to book the artist you feel best meets your requirements. It is likely the MUA will have you sign a contract or even pay a deposit, so be ready for this. When you read the contract, make sure it outlines the date and time and price of service and how much deposit you're paying. Make sure it's something you're comfortable signing before you do so.
